We never mourn, we live with it. Almost no one will be able to go against this saying, and certainly not Paul Belmondo, the son of Jean-Paul Belmondo, who said “farewell” to his father on September 6, 2021. The sacred monster of French cinema was leaving this world, diminished for several years following a stroke which occurred in 2001. On August 5, Stella’s big brother confided in this disappearance and admitted that he still had difficulty accepting the disappearance of his father.
A situation that he already evoked at Paris Match a few weeks ago. “We just have to talk about it, about a memory that arises, about an encounter, and tears well up in my eyes, like now”he revealed with a heavy heart before continuing: “I may not have done my mourning yet. And then there is always this love that people had for him and of which I am the receptacle. At Nice airport, a person came to tell me that she had grown up with Jean-Paul Belmondo and that she missed him. She did not speak only of the actor, but especially of the man, of my father. We suffer from the same absence”.
Always “present” despite his absence
A few weeks after this interview, the son of Jean-Paul Belmondo is at the same stage. He still hasn’t mourned and probably never will. Especially since he admits to France Sunday that there is not “a day without me not thinking of him”. “He left a great physical void within our family”adds the one who will be back on the boards from October to next February.
Despite this absence, he knows that his father is present at his side, every day that passes. “He is always there, with us, every second”assures the actor before concluding: “It’s another report, but despite the absence, he remains more present than ever. And people remind me of it every day by talking to me about him”.
