Papillomavirus: less than 15% of 5th grade students vaccinated

The vaccination campaign launched in October for the government in all public colleges against papillomaviruses, the cause of many cancers, is not appealing to college students and their families.

Only 117,000 5th grade middle school students are vaccinated against human papillomavirus (HPV). This represents 13 to 15% of the workforce. This data falls short of the government’s objectives, which hoped for 30% of children vaccinated against papillomaviruses in their establishment. The vaccination campaign against HPV, the cause of numerous cancers (cervix, vulva, vagina, ENT, anus, etc.) was launched at the beginning of October in all public colleges and voluntary private establishments. Its aim is to prevent infections due to sexually transmitted strains of the virus responsible for several types of cancer.

A dissuasive price

“There are fewer and fewer school doctors and school nurses. We are asking private city doctors to leave their offices to vaccinate children in schools,” deplores a doctor. The price of vaccination can be dissuasive for parents. After reimbursement by social security, the remainder payable for the two doses is 80 euros.
