Les Rendez-vous Québec Cinema | Geographies of Solitude wins the Luc-Perreault Prize

The Luc-Perreault prize from the Association québécoise des critiques de cinéma (AQCC), rewarding the best Quebec feature film of 2022, was awarded to Geographies of Solitude by Jacquelyn Mills and produced by Rosalie Chicoine Perreault.


The award, along with a $2,000 grant, was awarded as part of the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma (RVQC) awards ceremony.

Geographies of Solitude offers “an immersion into the rich ecosystem of Sable Island and the life of Zoe Lucas, a naturalist and environmentalist who has inhabited this isolated patch of land in the Atlantic Northwest for more than 40 years”, can we read in the press release of the AQCC.

The film had its world premiere at the 72e Berlinale in 2022 where he won three awards in the Forum section. The film also won the Best Canadian Film award at Hot Docs in 2022 and has been selected by more than thirty international festivals and events since its premiere.

This feature debut by Jacquelyn Mills is the sixth documentary in the history of the Association québécoise des critiques de cinéma to win this award (AQCC). Since 2012, the award has been named in honor of Luc Perreault, who passed away in 2007. Mr. Perreault worked nearly 40 years at The Presswhere he was a journalist and film critic from 1968 until his retirement in 2005.

The other four finalists in 2022 were This house by Miriam Charles, Falcon Lake by Charlotte LeBon, A summer like this by Denis Cote and viking by Stephane Lafleur.
