“Les combatantes” is the story of 4 women during the First World War, a pivotal period for the emancipation of women who knew how to take their destiny and that of the whole country into their own hands. The women who have been the great forgotten of this war. Because if many of them sacrificed themselves for France, they do not appear on any of the 36,000 war memorials of French municipalities.
If the team of the series took some fictional liberties in the story of the exceptional destiny of the heroines, it constantly watched over the plausibility by regularly calling on 2 historians, a specialist in the First World War and the other in the status of women in 14-18.

The term “fighter” chosen as a title by the production has actually been used by feminists who referred to women as ‘fighters from behind’. Through this military vocabulary, they insisted on the fact thatthey had skills and deserved rights which they did not yet benefit from.
