Les Bleues sign a first benchmark victory. The France team won against Norway (24-23) for its last match of the main round of the world championship, Sunday December 10, in Trondheim. United, the French women perfectly rose to the challenge posed by the reigning world champions, and showed that they could raise their level of play before entering the final phase.

The Blues offered a high-level collective performance to bring down the reigning world champions, at home, in front of an audience committed to the cause of their opponents. We were patient, serious in attack, a great defense, a great goalkeeper: everything you need for a good match.”greeted coach Olivier Krumbholz at the microphone of beIN Sports after the meeting.

To achieve this victory, the French women notably managed to erase many of the small flaws of their first matches. After another difficult start (three goals conceded and none scored in five minutes), they concentrated on getting back into the game. In the lead for a good part of the second half, they remained diligent until the end to validate their success.

Iron Defense

They also relied on a newfound defensive solidity. Symbolically, it was Laura Glauser’s 10th save on the last Norwegian attempt, a few seconds from the end of the match, which sealed the French success. We played a very complete match this evening, I’m very happy, we clearly raised our defensive level.”appreciated captain Estelle Nze Miko.

Faced with this iron resistance, the Norwegians thwarted, like their serial scorer Henny Ella Reistad, in difficulty on Sunday evening with only 50% success in shooting (3/6). More generally, Les Bleues’ opponents have failed to carry out their play and their rapid attacks which make them so difficult to upset.

Thanks to this success, the sixth in as many matches, the Bleues remain undefeated and finish at the top of group II, ahead of their evening opponents. They will face the Czech Republic, who finished in second place in Group IV, in the quarter-final on Tuesday evening.
