Reigning Olympic champions, the Bleues ideally began to conquer world gold by winning against Angola on Friday, December 3, in Granollers (Spain). They won 30-20 against the African champions after a serious and applied game defensively, with many saves from Laura Glauser.
Jostled, the Blue still took a long time to get into their match. After an observation round of more than 4 minutes, it was even the Angolan goalkeeper, Marta Samuel Alberto, who took advantage of the French inferiority and the empty goal to open the scoring. In difficulty to defend on the Angolan pivots, the Tricolores exposed themselves to sanctions but they could count on the many saves of Laura Glauser not to lose the thread after this sluggish departure. The French goalkeeper stopped 6 of her opponents’ 14 shots in the first period, while her teammates gained momentum and adjusted the sights to finally take a 4 pawn lead at half-time.
Faced with the physical challenge imposed by Angola, the Blue have completely taken the measure of their opponent after the break to enforce their status as reigning Olympic champions. Very applied in defense, with Laura Glauser still as decisive and a little help from the posts, they widened their advantage to finally win with 10 goals in advance.
Coach Olivier Krumbholz praised the performance of his goalkeeper, elected player of the match: “She had a very, very big game, full of confidence and full of daring. She helped a lot and was very strong at 6 meters and on the wing.”.
Serious victory for the Blue against Angola during this first World Cup exit @SheLOVsHandball, in particular thanks to a good @laura_glauser in the cages!
