The French women’s handball team qualified for Euro 2024 by winning once again against Slovenia, this Sunday March 3 in Orléans (41-22), during their fourth qualifying match. The Blues had already won the first round hands down against the Slovenes, their most serious opponent in this group 2, Thursday February 29.

The reigning world champions left very little space for the Slovenes, taking a 10-goal lead at halftime, thanks to their solidity in defense and their efficiency in the transition game (19-9 at the break). The Blues continued to dominate in the second half, notably with a pair of Tamara Horacek (8 goals) – Chloé Valentini (9 goals) in great form on Sunday.

Secure the top spot in April

Lare players by Olivier Krumbholz had already beaten Slovenia by four goals at the World Cup in December (31-27). For these two qualifying matches, the French coach recalled 17 of the 18 titled players. Only goalkeeper Camille Sinceet, injured, is missing.

Despite their qualification for Euro 2024, the Blues still have two qualifying matches to play against the modest Italians and Latvians (April 3 and 7), with the sole aim of securing first place, the first two in the group qualifying for the final draw of the competition.

Euro 2024 will take place in Hungary, Austria and Switzerland, between November 28 and December 17. Until then, the Blues will advance as favorites for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
