Dossier: Roland-Garros tournament
Léolia Jeanjean, 227th player in the world, played the very first match of her career in a Grand Slam tournament on Monday at Roland Garros. And the Stade Toulousain player won easily against a Spaniard, 45th in the world.
Léolia Jeanjean received a wild card, an invitation, to take part in Roland-Garros this year. She knew how to take advantage of it and scored the first round, even though she was playing the very first match of her career in a Grand Slam tournament. Licensed to Stade Toulousain, Léolia Jeanjean won on the Parisian court number 6 in two sets, quite easily, (6-4, 6-3) against the Spaniard Nuria Parrizas-Dias, 45th in the world.
“It’s a dream come true”, she confides at the microphone of the French Tennis Federation. Léolia Jeanjean had to leave the tennis courts for almost ten years following an injury ; at 26, she proves that French tennis can probably count on her. She will be opposed in the second round to Karolina Pliskova, seeded number 8, or her compatriot Tessah Andrianjafitrimo (141st), also invited.
