Lens are eliminated from the Conference League, in the play-offs, after their 2-0 defeat against Panathinaikos on Thursday August 29 in Athens, and despite their 2-1 victory in the first leg at the Bollaert stadium last week. France will therefore have only six clubs in the European Cup this season, after Lille qualified for the regular season of the Champions League on Wednesday.
Lens could have opened the scoring early in the match but Florian Sotoca saw his penalty saved by Bartlomiej Dragowski (15th). After the break, the Greeks opened the scoring through Facundo Pellistri (62nd) before former Lyon player Tetê gave Panathinaikos the victory with a lightning counter-attack (85th).
