Lens controls Rennes and temporarily takes the lead in the championship

Lens continues its idyllic month of August. Against Rennes, the Sang et Or won a victory with wear (2-1), Saturday August 27th. This success, acquired at the cost of a very successful second period, allows them to remain undefeated after four days. Seko Fofana and Loïs Openda made this domination a reality. The reduction in Gaëtan Laborde’s score did not change anything. Better, the Lensois are provisionally first in Ligue 1, pending the matches of Paris (against Monaco) and Marseille (in Nice), Sunday.

A series of crossings of legs at the entrance to the surface to wear down the supports of Désiré Doué, followed by a clear curling shot, out of reach of Dogan Alemdar. Before the 66th minute of this Lens-Rennes, Seko Fofana repeated – and succeeded – this gesture more than once in his artesian career. But the speed of the sequence and the precision of the gesture make it, each time, unique. “We can only say ‘well done'”greeted Rennes captain Hamari Traoré, at the microphone of Canal +.

It was necessary this masterpiece to wrap a seductive poster on the paper but until then purring. Franck Haise’s players had certainly been pushing for a few minutes, but the Bretons, failing to shine, resisted. As soon as the lock was pierced, it cracked a second time. Launched in depth by Florian Sotoca, Loïs Openda beat a feverish Joe Rodon before finishing from the left (71st).

The action says as much about the heart and Lensoise abnegation as about Rennes’ nonchalance. Apathetic for seventy minutes, the Bretons waited for this double handicap to come out of their shell. Finally sharp, they stumbled on Brice Samba then on his bar. Gaëtan Laborde’s too late reduction in score (90th + 1) only increased Breton regrets.

This complacency only confirms a gloomy start to the season – a victory in four games – for Bruno Génésio’s players. The entrants Sulemana and Laborde have certainly contributed, but the hinge Theate-Rodon, recruited this summer and a novice in Ligue 1, is crumbly. Moreover, the overall performance shows that Rennes, 11th on Saturday evening and probably lower at the end of this 4th day, is for the moment in its place.
