(Paris) Only 24% of French people say they “trust” Emmanuel Macron, down 5 points, its lowest level since the start of his second term in 2022, according to a survey published Thursday and carried out after the dissolution by the president French of the National Assembly.
It is close to the 23% recorded in December 2018, during the social protest of the Yellow Vests, which had been the lowest level of confidence since its first election in 2017, observes the Elabe institute.
Confidence falls by three points in President Macron’s own camp, although it remains high, at 71%. The decline is clearer in the oppositions: he loses five points of confidence among the voters of Jean-Luc Mélenchon (radical left, 17%), and six among the voters of Marine Le Pen (far right, 6%).
In total, 38% of those questioned say they have a “positive image” of Jordan Bardella, the leader of Marine Le Pen’s National Rally for the Europeans. She herself is at 33%.
The earthquake caused in France by the dissolution of the Assembly by President Macron and the strong push of the French extreme right in the European elections continued to cause tremors on Thursday, 17 days before the legislative elections which could notably affect the diplomatic course of the country.
The survey was carried out online from June 11 to 12 among a sample of 1,502 people representative of the French population aged 18 and over, using the quota method. According to the results, the margin of error is between 1.1 and 2.5% upwards or downwards.
