After the debacle of Valérie Pécresse during the presidential election, will the right-wing party Les Républicains be able to recover? Disagreements take place internally before the June 2022 legislative elections.
A historic rout and a lot of doubts. The Les Républicains party is more fragile than ever. “On the occasion of the next legislative elections, let’s not divide ourselves”declared Valérie Pécresse, after her failure in the presidential election of 2022. Because in the line of sight of the right-wing party to prepare the sequel, a dilemma arises: to remain independent or to ally with Emmanuel Macron.
Party cadres voted overwhelmingly for independence. But in reality, two opposing strategies clash internally. On the one hand, those who refuse any alliance with the head of state, like Laurent Wauquiez, Xavier Bertrand and Éric Ciotti. On the other, those who are working on it or thinking about it seriously, like the former President of the Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy.
