The Quebec mystery is even reflected in municipal life: the citizens of the capital region are more satisfied than elsewhere with their mayor, and seniors believe they have a better quality of life there.
This is revealed by the most recent version of the Léger municipal indicator, which measures citizens’ degree of satisfaction with the services provided by their city and with the elected officials who govern them.
This indicator is presented today to many managers of municipalities and it is used to measure the performance of organizations, which are also compared with each other.
It is indeed in the metropolitan region of Quebec that people are among the happiest with the work done by their mayor and their team.
Across Quebec, this satisfaction rate is 56%. But in the capital, it climbs to 68%.
Only residents of Est-du-Québec are more satisfied, at 74%. On the other hand, in mainland France, support drops to 47%.
“Across Quebec, the glass is half empty or half full. Whereas in Quebec and in Eastern Quebec, it is still two out of three people [qui apprécient l’équipe de leur maire ou mairesse]. It’s a good difference,” says Christian Bourque, Executive Vice-President and Partner at Léger.
happy seniors
It is also in the greater Quebec City region that seniors believe they have a better quality of life. The municipal indicator quantifies their agreement according to the statement “My municipality offers an exceptional quality of life to seniors”.
“The Quebec City region stands out in this regard. It was she who had, by far, the best results. Municipalities in the Quebec City region obtain a score of 7.4 out of 10, while it is 7 on average in Quebec and 6.7 in the metropolitan region of Montreal,” reveals Katherine Marcil, research director at Léger .
great pride
For Ms. Marcil, this performance is explained by the fact that citizens have a strong sense of belonging to their city.
“When you talk about the Quebec mystery, I think there is great pride. What we note is that this satisfaction also manifests itself elsewhere, in general satisfaction. »
The regions of Quebec and Eastern Quebec generally have a “very high level of pride for their part of the country,” she says.
“It also reflects the desire of these people to grow old in their region, to stay in their municipality and to spend happy old days there. »
