Legault says recession risks are increasing

CAQ chief François Legault estimates that the risk of recession has increased to 50% in Quebec.

Mr. Legault said that in such a context, the Quebec population has an interest in opting for stability with his team from the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ).

“I had the opportunity to talk with Éric Girard, we are getting closer to 50%, he said in a press briefing. There is a risk at the global level and a risk that has increased in recent days. And this is an additional reason to vote for the CAQ. »

Mr. Legault praised the qualities of his team.

“We are much better off with competent people who have proven themselves than taking risks in a situation like this where there is a risk of a global economic slowdown which is greater,” he said.

Mr. Legault expressed confidence that the CAQ’s financial framework will hold up, despite more optimistic economic growth forecasts than the private sector.

“Éric Girard told me yes, because we took provisions. We have provisions of 2 billion. »

Earlier this week, Mr. Legault had decreed that the economy would be the question that voters should have in mind when they cast their ballot in the ballot box.

On Saturday, during a stop in Repentigny where he met with activists, Mr. Legault told them that several people are suffering from the inflation caused by the international turbulence and the consequences of the pandemic.

“There is war in Ukraine, a breakdown of some supply chains,” he said. It’s that there are people who have trouble getting there. »
