Legault “bluffs” about the “health contribution” of the unvaccinated, says Éric Duhaime

The financial contribution that could be imposed on the unvaccinated is a bluff from the Legault government, said Conservative leader Éric Duhaime on Wednesday, who is calling for the lifting of all health constraints as quickly as possible.

Mr. Duhaime expressed his opposition to the bill that the government wants to table in February to penalize the unvaccinated because of the burden they place on the health network.

During a press briefing at the National Assembly, the Conservative leader expressed doubts about the government’s resolution, which recently brandished the threat of a new financial contribution for the unvaccinated, without giving details on the how it will be applied.

“If you seriously ask me what I think about it, I think the government is bluffing,” he said. I don’t think there will be a vaccination tax in Quebec. I think that government is putting pressure on it which is obviously not working, but it is always in a mode of wanting revenge. »

Details to come

In the National Assembly, where he participates in a parliamentary commission, the Minister of Finance, Éric Girard, remained vague on the government’s proposal.

“The details will be given when the bill is tabled,” he said. I can tell you what it won’t be: it won’t be a measure to restrict access to care. »

Based on a decision by Great Britain to soon lift health constraints, including the wearing of masks and teleworking, Mr. Duhaime urged the Quebec government to do the same. He also gave the example of sporting events that are held in public in the United States.

” There is no fun in Quebec, he told reporters. Pleasure has been abolished here for too long. It is time to put Quebec back on the normalcy of things. »

In the press briefing that followed, Mr. Duhaime argued that restaurateurs should now be able to welcome customers into their dining rooms. He also believes that the National Assembly should sit at full capacity when parliamentary work resumes in February.

Other restrictions could be lifted gradually, argues the Conservative leader, who says he bases his analyzes on the recommendations of a scientific committee, made up of “five, six doctors” who advise him.

“Quebecers will have to understand that what is happening south of our borders, what is happening today in England, this may be the way to go,” he said.

More details will follow.
