(OTTAWA) The Supreme Court on Thursday morning dismissed Placements Péladeau’s appeal, putting an end to a dispute that has lasted for more than 10 years over a family financial agreement.

By interpreting the agreement in their own way and challenging any other interpretation before the courts for such a long time, Pierre Karl Péladeau and his company Les Placements Péladeau committed an “abuse of rights” with regard to his sister Anne-Marie Péladeau, ruled by the Quebec Court of Appeal last November.
She then ordered the company to immediately pay $9.2 million to Anne-Marie Péladeau. This is the last installment of the sum due to Mme Péladeau on his share of the inheritance of his father, Pierre Péladeau, one of the most important entrepreneurs in the history of Quebec and the founder of Quebecor.
Mme Péladeau then said she was “very happy with the result, but at the same time shocked to have had to fight all these years to have my rights and my dignity respected”.
This is not the first conflict of its kind. In June 2021, Les Placements Péladeau and Pierre Karl Péladeau lost a similar dispute against his half-brother Simon-Pierre Péladeau. The court had forced the redemption of the last shares of Simon-Pierre for 4.28 million.
