Lebanon | Hezbollah accuses Israel of “hacking” video surveillance cameras

(Beirut) Hezbollah, a powerful Lebanese movement supported by Iran, accused Israel on Thursday of hacking into video surveillance cameras installed in homes and shops in southern Lebanon, calling on residents to disconnect these devices from the internet .

“The enemy recently hacked civilian cameras connected to the internet and installed in front of houses, shops and institutions in frontline villages,” Hezbollah said in a statement.

The Shiite movement, an ally of Hamas, accuses Israel of using the images to target its fighters.

Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7, the border between Lebanon and Israel has been the daily scene of exchanges of fire between the Israeli army and Hezbollah.

In total, more than 150 people were killed on the Lebanese side, most of them Hezbollah fighters but also more than 20 civilians including three journalists, according to an AFP count.

On the Israeli side, at least four civilians and nine soldiers were killed, according to army figures.

These exchanges of fire were largely limited to the border area. Israel has warned that it is ready to intensify its military action if Hezbollah fighters do not withdraw from the border.

Israel vowed to destroy Hamas after the attack carried out by commandos infiltrated from Gaza, which left around 1,140 dead, mainly civilians, according to an AFP count based on Israeli figures.

Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have killed at least 21,320 people, mainly women and children, according to a latest report from the Hamas health ministry.
