Lebanon relies on the international community. The Lebanese Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, called on the UN, Friday October 11, to adopt a resolution for a “immediate ceasefire” in the fighting between Israel and the Islamist movement Hezbollah, in open war for three weeks. He demands “a full application of resolution 1701”which stipulates the cessation of hostilities on both sides of the border and provides for only UN peacekeeping forces and the Lebanese army to be deployed in southern Lebanon. • Blue helmets targeted. For the second time in less than 24 hours, the Israeli army targeted UN peacekeepers. According to the official Lebanese agency ANI, a “Israeli Merkava tank targeted a UNIFIL tower (…) injuring soldiers of the Sri Lankan contingent”, in the morning. In a statement released immediately, the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said “condemn in the strongest possible terms the intentional and systematic firing by the Israeli army on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, also reacted, denouncing a “violation of international humanitarian law”.
• Hezbollah claims responsibility for an attack on an Israeli military base in Haifa. In a press release, the pro-Iranian formation specified that it had “launched a squadron of attack drones on an air base in Haifa.”
• 22 dead and 117 injured in Israeli raids carried out in Beirut Thursday evening. The toll of the Lebanese Ministry of Health continues to rise after the deadliest raids in the capital since Israel and Hezbollah were at open war. This is the third time that Israeli aircraft have targeted the Lebanese capital since September 23.
The Israeli army says it has killed the leader of Islamic Jihad from the Nour Shams camp in the West Bank. “A plane struck the Tulkarem area and eliminated Mohammed Abdullah, head of the Islamic Jihad terrorist network in Nour Shams,” specifies the army. She accuses him of being “involved in numerous attacks in the region”.
