(Paris) Twelve years after the launch of League of Legends, Riot Games is making a foray into the audiovisual world with a Netflix animated series based on the universe of its hit video game.
Aired from Sunday, a few hours after the final of the Worlds of one of the most followed eSports titles in the world, the series Arcane is a new version of the flagship entertainment of the American studio owned by the Chinese Tencent.
Remained for years during the only title of the group and its goose that lays the golden eggs, the multiplayer game LoL now sees its universe appear on other media: collectible card game, role-playing game or mobile adaptation.
Arcane, a nine-part cartoon series (aired three times one week apart), was designed and produced by Riot Games, in collaboration with French studio Fortiche Production, which has previously worked with it and other game publishers, and has also developed an animated series for Marvel Studios.
It features champions of the LoL universe, against the backdrop of the conflict between Zaun, land of the lowlands, and Piltover, rich city of the rulers, in an era where magic and technology intermingle.
The script also follows two sisters who had a difficult childhood in Zaun, but who, now adults, lead very different lives from each other.
This adaptation broadcast on Netflix once again illustrates the popularity of streaming for video games, attracted to the idea of attracting the public of players, which would increase the number of subscriptions.
This convergence between the media has also materialized with the announcement this week by Netflix of several mobile games for its subscribers, including two titles from the universe of its series. Stranger Things.
