Leading Hollywood actors’ union ratifies deal with studios to end strike

The agreement notably provides for a sum of more than a billion dollars in compensation and benefits for the actors, as well as protection against the use of artificial intelligence by the studios.

The conflict officially ends. Hollywood actors have ratified an agreement with the studios obtained on November 8 to end a several-month strike that disrupted the cinema industry, announced Wednesday December 6 SAG-AFTRA, the main American union in the sector .

This new multi-year contract was approved by 78% of union members who voted, with a participation rate of 38%, according to SAG-AFTRA. “This is a golden age for SAG-AFTRA and our union has never been stronger”declared its president Fran Drescher in a press release.

The agreement notably provides for a sum of more than a billion dollars in compensation and benefits for the actors, as well as protection against the use of artificial intelligence by the studios.

The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents Netflix, Walt Disney and other studios, welcomed the ratification of this contract. “With this vote, the industry and its jobs will be able to come back in force”, praises the AMPTP in a press release. Some actors had already returned to work before the agreement was ratified.
