Philanthropists increasingly want there to be a measurable impact from the donations they make and their analytical grid is growing, according to a KPMG Canada report. “Social and environmental responsibility, good governance practices, such as diversity on boards and among staff and beneficiaries, and sound financial practices are increasingly important funding considerations,” reads -on in a press release. About 78% of SME owners say the pandemic has increased their commitment to social and environmental issues, for example, and 58% of philanthropists point to good governance practices as a strong influence when choosing a charity to fund. “We’re starting to see a reimagining of philanthropy in Canada, beyond just donating money to worthy causes,” says Arundel Gibson, KPMG Family, Philanthropy and Impact Advisor. “Modern philanthropists are increasingly aware of the causes they support and are reexamining their giving strategies and fundraising practices. ”
