THE HONOURS

A new commander

On December 7, in Ottawa, Isabelle Hudon will be decorated with the Legion of Honor of France, in the rank of Commander. “I take it, with a lot of emotion and pride, as recognition of the work accomplished during four years in Paris. [en tant qu’ambassadrice du Canada en France et à Monaco], indicates Isabelle Hudon to Press. It tells me that we recognize the team’s effort in Paris on three fronts: economic diplomacy, feminist diplomacy and cultural diplomacy. For me, such recognition closes an important chapter in my career. Intellectually, this is the richest period of my career. ”

The Legion of Honor has three ranks: knight, officer and commander. Isabelle Hudon will be directly awarded that of Commander. The president and CEO of BDC chose to receive this recognition on Canadian soil, in particular to be surrounded by her parents and people in the government “who [lui] trusted, ”she said.

Sameh Fahmy, former Kansas City Southern executive, considered to take over from current CN CEO Jean-Jacques Ruest

THE FINDING

One day less

More and more businesses, large and small, are opting for or considering the four-day week in order to be more attractive and to promote work-family balance. But the reduction in the number of working days will force changes in the way things are done, according to Forbes :

– elimination of unnecessary meetings;

– prioritization of projects that have the most impact;

– the automation of certain tasks which do not require human action.

A donation after analysis

Philanthropists increasingly want there to be a measurable impact from the donations they make and their analytical grid is growing, according to a KPMG Canada report. “Social and environmental responsibility, good governance practices, such as diversity on boards and among staff and beneficiaries, and sound financial practices are increasingly important funding considerations,” reads -on in a press release. About 78% of SME owners say the pandemic has increased their commitment to social and environmental issues, for example, and 58% of philanthropists point to good governance practices as a strong influence when choosing a charity to fund. “We’re starting to see a reimagining of philanthropy in Canada, beyond just donating money to worthy causes,” says Arundel Gibson, KPMG Family, Philanthropy and Impact Advisor. “Modern philanthropists are increasingly aware of the causes they support and are reexamining their giving strategies and fundraising practices. ”

Similar to the United States, Amazon is now offering hiring bonuses of up to $ 3,000 for new employees at its Lachine shipping center. Amazon provided this benefit primarily to its employees in the United States. “These bonuses can vary depending on the sites and positions,” Amazon spokesman told Journal of Montreal. They are in addition to the tuition fees that the American giant has said it can also pay. Earlier this fall, two McDonald’s restaurants in the Laurentians announced hiring bonuses of $ 1,000.
