“Le Tourbillon” by Francis Veber, a play visibly inspired by the spirit of the times

“The whirlwind” : this is our time, full of sound and fury. No wonder that the 4 characters, Norbert, Sophie, Christine and Eric sometimes have trouble keeping up with music that is too fast.

Norbert is a cop. He’s gentle and peaceful like a bull in a pretty pasture… except when you wave a red cape under his nose. For Norbert, the red cape is the savagery of society, a violence that brings him reluctantly, before the General Inspectorate of the Police for brutality.

Sophie, his wife, works in a hairdressing salon. She should probably think a little before she speaks, but the enormities she spouts, often unnerving, make her unexpected, like life. Oddly, its lack of neurons gives it all its charm.

Eric married Christine, Norbert’s sister. He is a journalist and very depressed. The radio of which he was the star columnist has been bought by a large financial group whose political opinions he does not at all share. He resigned, resulting in a deep depression that Christine treats with great patience and love.

Christine is beautiful, intelligent, and the most balanced element of the quartet. She tries to slow down the whirlwind that drags the others down, but it’s hard to fight against her time.

Fortunately for us, in all this noise, all this fury, there is still a little room for laughter.

A comedy to discover until November 6 at the Madeleine Theater in Paris. Book your tickets quickly.
