The Journal of Montreal and The Journal of Quebec announced on Thursday that they will stop posting on Sundays as of January 7. In return, they will offer an improved formula on Saturdays.
The daily newspapers of Montreal and Quebec made the announcement simultaneously at the end of the day Thursday in a publication on their respective platforms. “In order to be able to continue to offer you diversified and quality content, we must make adjustments to our business model, indicated the two newspapers. In particular, we are facing the new reality of the media, which includes globalized competition from web giants (GAFA), and the expanded presence of Radio-Canada, which is largely subsidized by the state. »
A new improved offer on Saturdays is planned to compensate for the loss of the Sunday edition. New content should appear there, in particular a section on the history of Quebec and an Escape section.
“By introducing this new weekend edition, The newspaper follows a trend adopted by the vast majority of daily newspapers in North America, which have long since stopped printing paper newspapers on Sundays. »
The Sunday edition will be published until December 18. It will then be suspended for the two holiday weekends. The new format will appear on January 7.
