LCF | Shawn Burke becomes GM of Rouge et Noir

(Ottawa) The Ottawa Rouge et Noir has entrusted Shawn Burke with the mandate to revive a team which had a difficult campaign in 2021.

The Canadian Football League team named Burke as general manager on Sunday, a month after finishing the season with a 3-11 record.

“Today we are entering a new era of Rouge et Noir football,” said Mark Goudie, president and CEO of the team, in a press release.

“We conducted an extremely inclusive and in-depth GM search process that highlighted the high caliber of football men in our sport. I am extremely excited to discover the passion Shawn will bring to our team. ”

A native of Guelph, Ont., Burke comes to Ottawa after spending nearly 15 years with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Most recently, he served as senior director of player personnel and co-manager of football operations for the Tiger-Cats.

The Rouge et Noir fired general manager Marcel Desjardins in October, and Jeremy Snyder replaced him on an interim basis until the end of the campaign.

The Rouge et Noir opened the 2021 season with a 16-12 victory over the Edmonton Elks. The team went on to suffer five straight losses before defeating the Elks again.

The Rouge et Noir’s only other victory came in the very last game on the calendar, 19-18 against the Montreal Alouettes at Percival-Molson Stadium.
