Quebec wide receiver Samuel Emilus was spectacular last Friday in a 45-27 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The Roughriders representative caught three passes for touchdowns, which allowed him to tie a Saskatchewan organization record. In total, the Montreal native put his hands on seven balls for 78 yards.
“I wish it had happened in a win,” said Emilus, whose comments were reported by riderville.com. It’s always fun to score a touchdown, but I would have preferred the end result to be a win.”
Selected in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2022 draft, Emilus got only his fifth start in the Canadian Football League (CFL) against the Blue Bombers.
“He’s been great since the early days of training camp,” quarterback Trevor Harris said of his Quebec teammate. I think people are starting to find that out.”
“He’s fun and explosive. On his second touchdown, I threw the ball badly, but he accelerated and dived.
“He told me he was picking himself up for last week because he felt like he missed a catch in our opening moments of the game. [contre les Elks d’Edmonton]Harris also said.
It was the first time a Roughriders player had caught more than one touchdown pass in a single game since Jordan Williams-Lambert in September 2018.
Emilus is the 12th athlete in club history to score three majors via air and the first since Weston Dressler in 2012.
