Lawyer Jacques St-Amant was found safe and sound

A jurist best known for his work defending the rights of Quebec consumers for decades, Jacques St-Amant, was found safe and sound Friday morning after having been reported missing from his Montreal home by the police the day before.

The news was announced by the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). We do not know the circumstances of the happy ending of this affair.

Mr. St-Amant, who is 62 years old, had given his news for the last time Thursday and would have left his residence in the Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie sector. Investigators from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) said they had reason to fear for his health and safety.

Jacques St-Amand co-founded the organization Option consommateurs. He has made a name for himself as a strategic advisor, an analyst with the Coalition of Consumer Associations of Quebec and a lecturer in consumer law.

In April 2019, the Minister of Justice at the time, Sonia LeBel, presented him with the Office de la protection du consommateur Prize in recognition of his outstanding research activities, his contribution to the advancement of legal knowledge and its rare expertise, particularly in terms of payment systems.
