Laver Cup | Frances Tiafoe gives Team World the lead

(Berlin) American Frances Tiafoe put Team World in the lead at the Laver Cup on Saturday with a victory over Russian Daniil Medvedev.

Tiafoe, who reached the semi-finals of the US Open, won 3-6, 6-4, 10-5, with the third set being a tiebreaker in the competition pitting Europe against the rest of the world.

Each win is worth two points on Saturday, and will be worth three points on Sunday. The first team to reach 13 points will win, in a format reminiscent of golf’s Ryder Cup. Wins were worth one point on Friday.

Tiafoe’s victory gave Team World a 4-2 lead. Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz was set to face American Ben Shelton later Saturday, before a duel between Germany’s Alexander Zverev and American Taylor Fritz.

The final clash of the day will pit Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas against Ben Shelton and Alejandro Tabilo.
