“FAA” played heroes last year in London with two decisive victories on the last day of activities, including one at the expense of Novak Djokovic. This time, he will face Europe in front of his compatriots.
“I’m really looking forward to being part of the Laver Cup again. We had an amazing time in London last year, ‘FAA’ commented, according to the event’s official website. Vancouver is such a beautiful city, it’s going to be a very special experience for me.”
About his successes at the Laver Cup, the Quebecer indicated that they had been very important in his development. And with good reason: he won three consecutive tournaments in the weeks following his participation.
“The Laver Cup was a real boost for my confidence,” said Auger-Aliassime. I felt really good with my game at that time and then had a whole series of indoor tournaments under similar conditions where I felt I could win a lot of games.
Happy
Last September, Team World won the Laver Cup for the first time after seeing Team Europe win all four previous encounters. The captain of the World team, John McEnroe, is therefore very happy to be able to count once again on Auger-Aliassime, seventh racquet in the world.
“The Laver Cup is one of the best things to happen in tennis in the last 20 years. It had a huge impact on the sport and was a great success,” said the 53-year-old.
“We have great players on the world side, starting with Felix, who helped us get the win in London. He had a huge season last year and followed it up with a winning streak after the Laver Cup. It’s great to find him.”
