Laval University | Second day of strike for 1700 lecturers

(Montreal) The 1,700 lecturers at Laval University held a second day of strike on Friday.

The Union of Lecturers has planned to hold four days, including those of next Monday and Tuesday, unless there is a breakthrough between now and then in the negotiations for the renewal of the collective agreement.

The parties have been in conciliation since January.

The normative clauses having been fairly settled, there now remains the salary as a point in dispute.

The union reports that its members are demanding a salary comparable to that of their colleagues at other Quebec universities and that they are dissatisfied with the offers submitted.

The university management, for its part, says it offers “appropriate salary indexation, in accordance with its ability to pay”.
