Laval police are investigating “suspicious letters” sent to certain citizens which contain a white powder of unknown nature as well as threats of extortion and threatening remarks.
During the day on Monday, the Laval Police Service (SPL) said it had been informed “that certain Laval citizens had received an envelope containing a white powder of unknown nature, accompanied by an extortion letter including threatening words”.
Investigators from the Crimes against the Person squad have taken up the case and are currently trying to “obtain more information on these events,” says the police force.
“If you have received such a letter in the last few days or notice the presence of a suspicious envelope at your home, please immediately contact your police department, through 911, to notify them of the situation,” explains the Laval police.
This reminds citizens to “not touch or open the envelope and to wait for the police to arrive”. Other details could be given in the coming days, especially when the nature of the white powder in question is identified.
Anyone who has received a similar envelope or has information related to these events can also contact the Police Info Line by calling 450-662-INFO (4636). You can be assured of confidential treatment.
