The black series of pedestrian deaths continues. An 85-year-old woman was fatally struck on Tuesday evening in Laval as she was crossing Des Laurentides Boulevard on foot.
The accident occurred at the intersection of rue Proulx, in the Pont-Viau district.
A motorist arriving southbound would have hit the pedestrian there around 5:30 p.m., said a spokesperson for the Laval Police Service (SPL), Stéphanie Beshara.
At this location, boulevard des Laurentides is four lanes wide and there are no traffic lights. The intersection also lacks crosswalks, suggesting an accidental collision.
The octogenarian was transported to a hospital center where he was declared dead. The driver of the vehicle was treated for nervous shock at the scene.
Faced with a series of fatal accidents involving pedestrians in recent weeks, the organization Piétons Québec called for a meeting on Monday with the Prime Minister, François Legault, to discuss possible solutions.
