A five-month-old baby died early Friday after being found unconscious in an apartment building in the Chomedey district of Laval. The coroner opened an investigation, as required by protocol, but there would be no criminal element in the file, according to the authorities.
The Laval Police Service (SPL) first received a 911 call around 1:15 a.m. at 911 “for a young baby who was unconscious” in a residence on Saint-Elzéar Boulevard West, confirms agent Érika Landry, police spokesperson.
Once there, the police began to perform resuscitation maneuvers on the baby, but he was quickly rushed to a hospital center, where he was unfortunately declared dead.
According to our information, the death of the baby would be linked to his medical file and his state of health. The parents were on the scene when the police intervened, and followed the ambulances to the hospital. In shock, they were taken care of by social intervention teams in the region.
“There is no criminal element that is considered. But the coroner still asked us to open a file, because it is customary to do so given the young age, and because we are talking about a sudden death, ”continued agent Landry.
The SPL will nevertheless remain in “assistance” in this file. Investigators and forensic identification technicians could be temporarily loaned to the coroner during his investigation. In particular, an autopsy should be performed on the baby’s body.
