Laval | First seizure of 3D printed revolver leads to arrest

(Laval) Laval police reported Thursday that for the very first time, a three-dimensional (3D) printed revolver was seized on its territory, which led to the arrest of a suspect.

The Laval Police Service (SPL) specifies that the seizure was made during a routine interception carried out on November 28 by patrol officers.

Officers intercepted a vehicle in connection with a violation of the Highway Safety Code. During the verification of the documents and the identity of the occupants, one of them falsely identified himself, thus committing an obstruction of the work of the police.

The two occupants were therefore placed under arrest.

It was during the search of the suspects that the police seized a 3D printed revolver from one of them. A small amount of drugs and fake IDs were also found.

According to the SPL, the possession of a 3D printed firearm constitutes an emerging phenomenon in Quebec while the police are fighting against the phenomenon of urban violence linked to firearms.

The 30-year-old suspect who was carrying the 3D printed revolver appeared at the Laval courthouse on charges of possession of a prohibited weapon. He remained detained and will return to court on January 18.
