Laval: a major network of thefts of dismantled vehicles

Six people aged 30 to 51 were arrested by Laval police in connection with a network of thefts of vehicles that were intended for export overseas.

Initiated last September, the investigation showed that the suspects would be linked to 13 files of car thefts that occurred in Laval, Montreal and on the North Shore.

Dodge Ram and Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles were primarily targeted in commercial parking lots in these communities.

Once the car was stolen, the suspects left it in the parking lot of an apartment building or a seniors’ residence. A few days later, the vehicle was transported to a warehouse in Montreal to be loaded into a container for export.

Two of the individuals arrested appeared at the Laval courthouse and were released, three others remained detained and the last was released by way of summons. They face charges of possession of property obtained by crime, theft of a vehicle, unlawful presence in a dwelling and receiving more than $5,000.

During the searches, 11 vehicles were seized, as well as a boat, a watercraft, six trailers and 53 sports tires and wheels. Nearly $36,000 in Canadian money and $12,160 in American money were also found.
