Laureus Sports Prize | Novak Djokovic, Jude Bellingham and Aitana Bonmati rewarded

(Madrid) World tennis number one Novak Djokovic, Real Madrid’s English midfielder Jude Bellingham and Spanish Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmati were awarded Monday at the 25e Laureus sports awards ceremony.


The Serbian Djokovic, record holder of Grand Slam titles with 24 successes at the end of a spectacular 2023 season, was elected sportsman of the year during this ceremony organized this year in Madrid, notably ahead of the F1 world champion Max Verstappen.

Jude Bellingham, the Golden Boy of Real Madrid, received the World Revelation of the Year award after his exceptional debut with the Madrid club at just 20 years old.

Among women, Spanish world champion and 2023 Ballon d’Or Aitana Bonmati was voted sportswoman of the year, after a historic season where she won all the collective and individual trophies with FC Barcelona and La Roja.

The Spanish selection, which has just won in the space of six months the two major trophies of women’s football, the World Cup and the League of Nations, was also honored by receiving the team trophy of the ‘year.

American gymnast Simone Biles received, remotely, the trophy for “comeback” of the year, while Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal was rewarded for his foundation and his educational projects in India and Spain.
