Laurentides: a child seriously injured in an accident involving a repeat offender

A child was seriously injured in a road accident that occurred Sunday morning in Sainte-Adèle, in the Laurentians. Alcohol would be to blame.

It was around 5:45 a.m. on Highway 15 at kilometer 74 that the driver lost control of the vehicle before rolling over. In addition to the driver, there was a child in the car. The extrication pliers were necessary to extricate the latter from the car, indicated Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The child who suffered serious injuries was transported to a hospital in the region, but could be transferred to Sainte-Justine hospital for appropriate care. Fortunately, there would be no fear for his life in the short term, added Sergeant Bilodeau.

The driver, having visibly driven under the influence of alcohol, stopped and was taken to the police station where he refused to take an alcohol test. The latter also had a curfew and a ban on driving a motor vehicle in Canada.

He could face charges of driving while impaired by alcohol, refusal to submit to a breathalyzer test, prohibited driving and breach of suspended sentence, confirmed Ève Brochu-Joubert, spokesperson for the SQ
