Laurentians | The SQ dismantles an illicit cannabis network

A 41-year-old man was arrested in a case of illicit cannabis production following an intervention Thursday by police officers from the Contraband Investigation Service of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) in Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard, in the Laurentians.

The police arrived Thursday at a residence on Chemin des Bourges, a cul-de-sac on the outskirts of Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard, located about fifteen kilometers from Morin-Heights, in the Laurentians.

On the spot, they seized nearly 27 kilograms of illicit cannabis, hashish, GHB and a “long weapon”, the SQ said in a press release on Friday.

A 41-year-old man was arrested at the scene and faces charges of Cannabis Production, Cannabis Possession and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.

He was released and will appear later.

This operation took place within the framework of the CENTAUR strategy, indicates the SQ.

“The CENTAUR strategy has the mandate to ensure constant pressure on organized crime and thus actively fight against armed violence in Quebec, recalls the SQ in its press release. CENTAURE allows all partner police forces to maximize their efforts at the national, regional and local level targeting the supply, importation, distribution and illegal possession of firearms. »

This strategy benefits from nearly $200 million in funding from the governments of Quebec and Ottawa, from 2018 to 2026.

Any information related to the possession, trafficking or use of firearms can be communicated to the CENTAURE information line at 1-833-888-ARME (2763).
