Laurentians | Teacher accused of sex crimes

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) arrested last Friday Kevin Parent, a 32-year-old teacher who allegedly committed crimes of a sexual nature for more than 10 years, in Lachute, Saint-Jérôme and Laval. He could have caused other victims.

The 32-year-old man was arrested on December 15 by the Gatineau Major Crimes Investigation Division of the Sûreté du Québec. He appeared the same day at the Saint-Jérôme courthouse.

He faces charges of sexual interference, inciting sexual contact and luring while in a position of authority over victims. Some were minors at the time of the events, the SQ said in a press release on Monday.

The teacher was also arrested and charged last October with other crimes related to sexual contact with minors, including sexual assault. The local newspaper Argenteuil then reported that Kevin Parent had been teaching since 2019 at the Lavigne high school, located in Lachute, in the Laurentians.

The accused was a professor of social studies in 1D secondary. He actively participated in student life, notably by hosting karaoke and performing in the school’s comedy show. He was also a basketball coach, according toArgenteuil.

He was relieved of his duties at the start of the school year. Suspended, he was to receive a salary during the investigation, said the president of the Rivière-du-Nord Education Union, Jean-Stéphane Giguère.

Father of two boys, Kevin Parent describes himself on his X account as a “father and spouse, a passionate teacher wanting to make a difference and a dedicated basketball coach.”

A distant acquaintance of Mr. Parent confided to The Press having experienced a shock upon learning of his arrest in October. “I knew him as a player, but he flirted with girls his age,” he maintained.

Charges over 10 years

The crimes for which Kevin Parent is accused were allegedly committed from 2012 to 2023, over a period of more than 10 years.

Active on Facebook, Messenger and TikTok, Mr. Parent could have caused other victims, estimates the SQ.

Moreover, given the number of victims, the structure for managing investigations into serial crimes (GECS), coordinated by the Sûreté du Québec, was deployed.

“This is a unified command structure in which Quebec police services work in partnership to quickly identify and arrest crimes committed by predators,” the press release reads. of the SQ.
