Laurentians | Suspected sex offender arrested

(Mont-Laurier) The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) announced Thursday that it had arrested two days earlier in the Hautes-Laurentides a 27-year-old man in connection with a series of sexual assaults .

The Major Crimes Investigation Division of the SQ adds that a search was also carried out at the residence of the suspect, Jeff Perrier, in Mont-Saint-Michel, about thirty kilometers northeast of Mont-Laurier. Computer equipment was seized at the scene and will be analyzed by investigators.

The SQ reports that Jeff Perrier has already appeared by videoconference at the Mont-Laurier courthouse on several counts of luring and sexual assault. The court has determined that he will remain detained at least until the continuation of the legal proceedings scheduled for March 20.

The police investigation suggests that Jeff Perrier approached his alleged victims by using chat applications. It seems that he fixed them an appointment and offered them car rides before sexually assaulting them.

The events would have occurred over a period of 14 months.

Since several alleged victims have been identified by the police, the management structure for serial crime investigations (GECS), coordinated by the Sûreté du Québec, has been deployed. It is a unified command structure that involves other police forces.

Any information concerning the actions of Jeff Perrier can be transmitted to the Sûreté du Québec.
