The sad event happened shortly before 4:45 p.m. on Sunday. The police officers of the MRC of Antoine-Labelle and the emergency services were then called to go to the scene of a collision.

According to the first information available, the driver of an SUV first tried to avoid a collision with another vehicle while traveling southbound.

In doing so, he would have momentarily found himself in the opposite lane where he would have collided head-on with the family vehicle.

Three people were in each vehicle. The driver of the SUV at the origin of the accident, a 33-year-old man, suffered minor injuries while his passenger, a 36-year-old woman, finds herself between life and death.

The authorities needed life forceps to extract her from the wreckage of the vehicle in which a child was also found. The latter, however, would be out of danger.

As for the passengers of the other vehicle, one of them would have been transported to a hospital center to treat minor injuries. A child was also present in this vehicle, but did not suffer serious injuries either.

A police officer specializing in collision investigation was dispatched to the scene to try to establish the circumstances of the tragedy.

Route 117 was still closed Sunday evening near Rivière-Rouge at the time of writing these lines, but should reopen shortly according to the Sûreté du Québec.

A detour has been set up in the meantime via Chemin des Rapides and Montée Bigras.
