In addition to having to choose three municipal councilors, the voters of Saint-Faustin – Lac-Carré, in the Laurentians, were invited to vote on their collective identity on Sunday.

To the question: “Would you like, yes or no, that the Municipality of Saint-Faustin – Lac-Carré change its name to that of Municipalité de Mont-Blanc?” », A small majority (51%) answered in the affirmative. Out of 3,330 people eligible to vote, 1,462 votes were cast in the referendum.

The final decision “rests with the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing”, however recalled Saint-Faustin on his website.

The municipality of nearly 3,700 inhabitants had adopted a resolution to take the name of the mountain located on its territory in February 2019. The objective was to “give itself a strong image coupled with a distinctive name, with the aim of to increase the power of attraction “and” to stimulate its economic development “, explains the site of Saint-Faustin. Mont Blanc is known for its ski resort of the same name.

Three advisers, Alain Lauzon, André Brisson and Guy Simard, were also elected on Sunday. The mayor, Jean-Simon Levert, and the three other councilors had already been elected without opposition.
