Laurentians | Fatal collision in Lac-Saguay

(Lac-Saguay) A driver lost his life after crashing into a truck carrying a load of wood in Lac-Saguay, near Mont-Laurier, in the Laurentians.

Emergency services were notified around 7 p.m. Wednesday of the collision on Route 117.

“The driver of the vehicle would have crashed into the back of the truck which was traveling at reduced speed on a slope. The two vehicles were traveling south on Route 117,” explained Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

“Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead,” he said.

The victim is a 63-year-old man from the neighboring municipality of Rivière-Rouge.

Route 117 was closed to traffic for a period of time and motorists had to take a detour via Old Route 11.

“A patrol officer trained in collision investigation was mandated to appraise the scene and traffic controllers were asked for assistance during this sad event,” said Sergeant Tremblay.

It’s unclear why the victim couldn’t slow down in time.

The truck driver was not injured.

The SQ investigation is continuing.
