Laurentians | A woman loses her life in a fire in Saint-Jérôme

The Sûreté du Québec is investigating a fire that led to the death of a woman in Saint-Jérôme on Sunday.


The fire safety services of the city of Laurentides were called around 7 a.m. Sunday morning regarding a blaze that devastated a building on Route 117.

The fight against the flames continued until mid-afternoon. According to Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), it was a semi-commercial building with housing.

Around 2:30 p.m., firefighters discovered an unresponsive woman on site. She was transported to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Neither the age nor the identity of the victim was known at the time of writing.

The building would be a total loss due to the significant damage caused by the fire, reports Sergeant Bilodeau. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Given the death, the investigation was transferred to the SQ’s major crimes division. Investigators are on site this evening and the investigation will continue on Monday.
