(Montreal) The major crimes investigation department of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is investigating a fire that occurred Sunday in Saint-Jérôme, in the Laurentians. An unresponsive person was found at the scene of the fire.
Around 7 a.m. Sunday morning, firefighters were called to a building located on Saint-Georges Street, or Route 117, which was engulfed in flames. It was a commercial building with accommodation upstairs.
“After many hours of fighting the blaze, around 2:30 p.m., they discovered an inanimate person,” said Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the SQ.
The victim was transported to a hospital while he was in critical condition.
“The building could be declared a total loss given the extent of the damage,” said Mr.me Bilodeau.
The cause of the fire was still unknown Sunday evening. SQ investigators as well as fire scene technicians will go to the scene at daylight Monday morning to shed light on the circumstances of this event.
