Laurent Luyat settles accounts with Marion Bartoli

The Roland Garros tennis tournament started this Sunday, May 28, 2023 in Paris. As always for exactly 20 years, Laurent Luyat took his place on the terrace overlooking the Philippe-Chartrier Porte d’Auteuil court to provide live commentary from the famous international tennis championship.

Just before, the journalist gave an interview to “Puremédias” in which he talks about the many sporting events to come on France Télévisions and the festivities linked to Roland Garros. We thus learn that a special will be organized to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Yannick Noah’s victory. Laurent Luyat then talks about his feelings about the fact that tennis player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will play consultants for Amazon Prime Video, a platform where Roland Garros matches are also broadcast. “We made him an offer but he preferred Amazon’s. I regret that, Jo was a huge player and the public loves him. Nevertheless, we have such a successful team of consultants that it’s not as if we were lacking.” said Laurent Luyat.

“I didn’t find it very elegant”
The journalist was also asked to give his opinion on Marion Bartoli, the former tennis champion turned Amazon Prime Video consultant who had openly criticized the coverage of the French tournament by France Télévisions. The former player had notably criticized the presence of numerous advertising pages or the presence of guests on the set during the matches…

“I am always shocked when a consultant from a chain criticizes her competitors. There are things that are not done. I have always practiced brotherhood since I have been doing this job. For my part, I have not I’ve never seen a consultant criticize a competitor. It’s the first time I’ve seen this, I didn’t find it very elegant. I think she could have abstained, but these words don’t matter. ” affirmed Laurent Luyat.
