It seemed inevitable. Olympique Lyonnais parted ways with its coach, Laurent Blanc, Monday September 11, while the club is in 18th and last place in the French championship after four days. The Cévenol did not resist the humiliating defeat suffered at home against Paris Saint-Germain before the international break (1-4).

“Olympique Lyonnais and Laurent Blanc have decided, by mutual agreement, to end their collaboration as of today. This decision also concerns Franck Passi and Philippe Lambert, assistant coaches”wrote the club in a press release.

Arriving eleven months ago to replace the Dutchman Peter Bosz, Laurent Blanc has suffered disappointing results at the head of the Lyon squad. Not qualified for the European Cup at the end of the previous year, his group made the worst start to the accounting season in the history of the club with a unit taken in four matches. He is also the coach with the worst points average at the club in the 21st century (among those who have managed at least 30 games).

If the honorary third place taken by Olympique Lyonnais over the entire return phase of the last season had saved its record for a while, the ax finally fell for the tactician who had ironically called for his own dismissal during an interview after the defeat against Montpellier (1-4) in August.
