It is Laurent Batlles who will have the heavy task of raising ASSE. Relegated to Ligue 2 following a barrage lost against Auxerre (1-1, 1-1, 4-5 on penalties), Saint-Etienne appointed his former midfielder as coach on Friday June 3. He replaces Pascal Dupraz, whose departure was announced on Thursday.
At 46, this is Batlles’ second head coaching experience. He landed a move up to Ligue 1 with Troyes in May 2021, before leaving the club despite an encouraging fifteenth-place finish last December.
A Saint-Etienne player from 2010 to 2012, he started his career as a coach in Forez. Batlles was successively in charge of the reserve (2014-2015, 2016-2019) and assistant coach of Christophe Galtier, then at the head of the first team (2015-2016). He signed a two-year contract with the Greens.
