Laurence St-Germain pumped up for the next season

Victim of a fall in the second run today during the final of the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Andorra, Laurence St-Germain did not experience the hoped-for end, but she draws a positive balance sheet of this season which crowned him world champion.

“I didn’t reach them all, but I scored a few good goals that make me proud,” said the slalom skier. At the start of the season, I wanted to get my first career podium and it’s mission accomplished even if I didn’t think it would happen in the world championship and with one more victory.

This end of the season where she won world gold and signed her best result in the World Cup with a 5th place in Are in Sweden suggests great things for the next campaign. “It’s a big, big motivation for next season,” she said. I will work on my consistency to compete with the best. The confidence acquired at the World Championship allowed me to attack the start of the course with confidence in my ski and without asking myself any questions. Although I crashed today, I liked my approach and the way I attacked on two runs.

This confidence was dearly acquired for St-Germain who did not have the expected start to the season. The contribution of her mental trainer was essential. “Despite a bad start, she helped me not get too discouraged and tried to find solutions,” she said. His work has been a big factor in my journey. The click happened in the Czech Republic when I got a 7th place. With a lot of videos, I realized what I was missing to compete with the best.”

“It was a season during which I learned a lot, to pursue the resident of Saint-Férréol-les-Neiges. Even though it worked well in training, I lacked confidence in the race. Along the way, I found the right intensity and the right approach to compete with the best.

Difficult route

In 10th place after the first descent, St-Germain got off to a good start in moto two, but a crash in a steep section cut short his aspirations. “I lost my footing in a bump in the second wall,” she explained. I had made a tactical error in the same place during the first run. The course is really tough and the trail had some additional challenges with the rain and snow. It’s a bit of a disappointing day and I console myself with the thought that several girls have fallen in the same place.”

The World Cup over, St-Germain will stay one more week in Europe where Rossignol has invited her to test skis for the next season, an opportunity she obtains for the first time.

“I will be able to bet on more personalized skis that will correspond more to my style of skiing and I will know the products better, she indicated. In addition, I will be able to learn from Petra Vlhova with whom I will train and who won today.

A training camp is scheduled for Tremblant in April on the course which will host a stage of the World Cup next December.
