In 16 departments, it has been possible since Monday February 26 to file a complaint remotely, by videoconference. The practice will be extended to all of France by September 2024.
Violence, theft or scams… From now on, it is possible to speak directly to the police from your computer thanks to videoconferencing. The connection is made via the website of the Ministry of the Interior and the identification of the complainant via the FranceConnect platform, used in other administrative procedures. You must then choose a time to obtain a remote exchange with a police officer who will record the complaint and forward the report by email.
Unclog police stations
“You can always file a complaint for any reason in a police station or in a gendarmerie brigade. But there, you can also do it remotely”said Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior. The announced objective: to relieve congestion at police stations and make it easier to file complaints. A face-to-face hearing may be requested if the investigators deem it necessary. Available in 16 departments, the system should extend to the rest of France by September 2024.
