The Masters 1000 at Paris-Bercy is only in its third day and there are already no more French players in the running. The only Habs qualified in the second round, Ugo Humbert lost to world number 9 Alexander Zverev in three sets (6-4, 6-7 [3-7]7-6 [7-5]), at the end of an intense 3h30 fight. The Frenchman, 26th player in the ATP rankings, came close to the feat and confirmed his good momentum in recent weeks.

The latter remained on a semi-final in Basel and two victories against members of the Top 10 (against Andrey Rublev (n°5) in Beijing, then against Stefanos Tsitsipas (n°6) in Shanghai). Trailing 6-4, 5-3, Ugo Humbert managed to come back from a break to equalize at one set all via a tie-break. But he was a victim of the opposite scenario in the third and final set, lost in the decisive game after taking a break in advance.

Worst French performance at Bercy equaled

Out of eight French entrants, only Ugo Humbert qualified for the second round. There will therefore be no French in the round of 16 of the Masters 1000 at Paris-Bercy for the second time since the creation of the tournament in 1986, after 2018.

Earlier today, Daniil Medvedev fell by the wayside. The No. 3 seed was dominated by Grigor Dimitrov in three sets (6-3, 6-7, 7-6). No bad surprises, however, for Novak Djokovic, who passed without problems against Tomas Etcheverry (6-3, 6-2) for his return after a month and a half of absence. Stefanos Tsitsipas also joined the third round by beating Felix Auger-Aliassime (6-3, 7-6).
